Rain lashed Hyderabad on Friday (July 18, 2025) afternoon forcing pedestrians and motorists to find shelter. This is the second day the city received showers.
India Meteorological Department issued an alert at 3.31 p.m, stating that moderate rain with intense to very intense spells are very likely to occur over entire Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society’s data recorded from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Friday, Kukatpally in Balanagar mandal received the highest of 93.0 mm rainfall, followed by 91.9 mm in Chandrayangutta and 91.0 mm in Begumpet, indicating the rain was spread evenly in all parts of the city.
Highest rainfall in urban districts
In fact, when the data from across Telangana was considered, the highest rainfall was recorded in Hyderabad and its adjacent urban districts; 95.3 mm in Mangalpalle of Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Rangareddy, followed by 93.0 mm in Bowenpally ward (Kukatpally) of Balanagar mandal, Medchal Malkajgiri and 91.0mm in Indiranagar of Bandlaguda, Hyderabad.
The 10 districts under heavy rain alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 10 Telangana districts, including Hyderabad, for Saturday (July 19, 2025).
According to IMDs latest bulletin, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Siddipet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool districts.
Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and strong surface winds are very likely to occur at isolated places in all 33 districts.
Forecast for Hyderabad
There will be generally cloudy sky over Hyderabad and its surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. “Moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds are very likely to occur in parts of the city towards evening or night. Hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32°C and 22°C, respectively,” the bulletin said.
Severe thunderstorms likely in next two to three days
Head of Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad, K. Nagarathna said on Friday that thunderstorms are likely to be severe during the next two to three days over southern, central and eastern districts.
“The north, west and northeast districts are likely to receive light to moderate rains with thunderstorms activity and lightning during the next two to three days,” she said.
