Hyderabad, September 19: Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Thursday, leaving low-lying areas like Khairatabad and MS Maqta waterlogged and disrupting vehicular traffic. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph over the next 48 hours. Misty or hazy conditions are also expected in the mornings and nights.
Yellow Alert for Telangana
The IMD has issued a yellow alert across Telangana, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places on September 18 and 19. On September 20, the alert will include Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal. Similar weather is likely to persist on September 21.
Two Missing in Habeeb Nagar Floodwaters
Earlier on September 14, heavy rains claimed two lives in Habeeb Nagar, where floodwaters swept away Arjun (26) and Rama (25). Despite a large-scale search and rescue operation with three Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, both remain missing as water flow in the area continues to be strong.
Traffic Police on High Alert
Hyderabad Traffic Police teams worked round-the-clock to manage congestion and clear waterlogged roads. “Our teams regulated traffic at key junctions, coordinated with GHMC and HYDRAA for water clearance, and responded swiftly to emergencies. We thank the public for their cooperation,” the department said in a statement.
CM Revanth Reddy Directs Relief Operations
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to speed up flood-relief operations and directed the state administration to seek financial aid from the Union Government to strengthen rehabilitation and disaster-response efforts in the rain-affected areas.
